The daughter of ex- South African Head of State Zuma has denied all charges to terror charges at the beginning of her trial in the harbor city of the city of Durban.

Zuma-Sambudla, forty-three, is being prosecuted over statements she posted on social media in the past during deadly protests in South Africa that followed the detention of her father.

A seven-day period of chaos in various areas of the country in July 2021, including looting and fire-setting, left at least 300 killed and caused damage worth an approximate $2.8bn (£2.2bn).

Zuma-Sambudla has been alleged of inciting this unrest and is charged with charges of encouragement to commit terror acts and civil unrest.

Context of the Legal Matter

The demonstrations were centered in the provinces of the Gauteng province and KZN and came after the ex-leader's apprehension for defying a court order to testify at an investigation into allegations of graft while he was serving as president.

Ms Zuma-Sambudla has always rejected the allegations against her, with her attorney previously describing the prosecution's evidence as weak.

She has also consistently stated the accusations against her were an bid to resolve political scores with her parent after he founded his own political party and ran against the ruling party.

Backing and Court Representation

This was reinforced by the foundation, which claimed the proceedings was an "misuse of authority" and a "organized effort" of "politically motivated and familial targeting" against the ex-leader and his kin.

A handful of backers from her political organization, her party, turned up outside the KwaZulu-Natal high court, while her father and other group representatives were present at the proceedings inside.

The defense has argued that the testimony presented by the state is unconvincing and fails to provide concrete evidence for a criminal finding.
