Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.

The team did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
