Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
