The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Celebrated for Designing for Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer behind some of the most iconic looks associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."
This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
- Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
- Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
- Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.

The industry mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
