The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
