The President Calls Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Soldiers to White House
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The president stated he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Mourners gathered over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to support public safety in Washington DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the head of her previous school, stated to the media. “She was caring, caring and always ready to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and halt issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
