Tragedy Occurs as Inadvertent Blast at Law Enforcement Facility in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Results in Nine Lives
A tragic detonation at a law enforcement facility in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has caused the deaths of nine individuals and wounding to thirty-two additional people, according to official statements.
The event happened when a cache of impounded blast substances unintentionally detonated during processing activities.
Sequence of Occurrences
The blast occurred on Friday night at the Nowgam law enforcement facility, where blast substances taken from Faridabad region in the northern province of Haryana were being kept briefly.
Local police chief stated that the detonation substances were awaiting scientific analysis when a "extremely tragic" mishap during handling caused their explosion at approximately 23:20 in the evening.
Authority Declarations
Security forces asserted that this was an "accidental detonation" and rather than a terrorist attack. "Different conjectures regarding the reason of this event is unnecessary," emphasized the police chief during a media conference.
The police station endured severe damage from the explosion, with neighboring structures also being influenced by the strong explosion.
Impact and Victims
Several automobiles were "consumed by fire and transformed into ashen remains, with fragments distributed across the area," according to authority statements.
"The power of the blast was such that some human remains were recovered from nearby houses, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the security post," reported an police contact.
Most of the victims were security officials, along with technical investigation team, two evidence documentation specialists, and a clothing professional who was accompanying the group.
Government Response
The region's Lieutenant Governor stated condolences and declared that an investigation had been ordered into the devastating event.
"I have commissioned a inquiry to establish the reason of the accidental explosion. Profoundly distressed by the death of valuable individuals due to extremely tragic accidental blast at Nowgam police station in Srinagar city. My condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for quick healing of the harmed," stated the authority on online channels.
